Beautiful Fall Saturday in Hickory for Rotary Learning

It was a beautiful, crisp fall Saturday in Hickory, NC as Rotarians and Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) Facilitators gathered at Lenoir Rhyne University to expand their knowledge and increase their effectiveness as Rotarians.  The Rotarians gathered, discussed, learned, and shared ideas and experience with each other during this RLI event.  They had fun, made new friends, and left carrying ideas back to their respective Rotary Clubs to improve or revitalize them.

The campus of Lenoir Rhyne was beautiful and the facilities were excellent.  The Facilitators and participants came from all over the Carolinas. One of the Facilitators was the sitting District Governor of District 7670, Billi Black!  What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday in November!  As the event drew to a close, the participants eagerly shared how they would continue on to the next stage of RLI to continue their learning and experience sharing journey in Rotary.

Our thanks to all of  the RLI facilitators.  From District 7750, we had PDG Becky Faulkner, PDG Lorraine Angelino and newly appointed RLI Regional Coordinator Gene Moorhead.  We also had Georgia Oakes and PDG Ken Dresser from Charlotte and Randy Hollister from Pawleys Island, SC.   The Evaluations showed that they did an excellent job.

In order to make RLI more accessible to District Rotarians, the next meeting will be at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood, SC.  The date will be March 12, and we will start promoting the meeting immediately.

This will be the last meeting for Regional Coordinator Bill Parker.  Bill and his wife Barbara personally attended every meeting and did a great job handling the myriad details of running the meeting.  He will move up to the overall events coordinator and Gene Moorhead from the Rotary Club of Gaffney will replace him as regional coordinator.  We thank Bill for his service over the last three years and look forward to working with Gene in his new role.

Finally, Facilitator Ken Dresser’s car earned rave reviews.

Great District 7680 RLI Event on a Rainy Day in Charlotte, NC

Brand new Rotarians and long-time service Rotarians came together in Charlotte this month to enjoy food, fun and fellowship as they learned more about Rotary, shared great ideas and took away more great ideas from each other!  The weather was raining on the outside, but the outlook was quite sunny on the inside.  There were 22 Rotarians in Part 1, which means there are now 22 Rotarians ready to attend Part 2 and take a deeper dive in the wonderful world of Rotary!
Thanks to our terrific facilitators: Ed Shearin, Bob Newton, Gene Moorhead, Alvin Lewis, Joe Running, Bob Stinson and John Halada!  Thanks also to District Governor Ineke Wilson for welcoming attendees!  Special thanks to Rotarian Jerry Coughter for providing such a lovely facility for our event!

Interact Club Members

District 7720 held the 2015 Rotary Leadership Institute at Pitt Community College on September 19th.  Thirty two Rotarians registered and ultimately twenty nine were able to attend.  Part I had eighteen and was divided into two groups.  Part II had six participants and Part III graduated five at the end of the day.

The Faculty, staff and key volunteers enjoyed an extraordinary dinner the night before at the Colonial Inn in Farmville.  This private dinner gave the group a wonderful way to meet, greet and bond for the following day’s RLI.

The RLI venue was the relatively new E. Russell Building with lunch provided across the street at the Goess cafeteria.  Everyone enjoyed the food, fellowship and their sessions throughout the day.  Several PCC employees provided amazing support before and at the beginning of the day; namely, Dr. Dan Mayo, Faith Fagan and Matthew McCarthy.

As an added bonus, nine of the Pitt County Interact Club volunteered to usher and maintain the break room for the day.  Their adviser, Rotarian and Educator Lauren Piner, allowed them to audit some of the classes and thus learn more about our awesome organization of Rotary.
