Richard
A. Waugh, PhD is a Technology Consultant having
retired in 2003 as Director of Technology with Babcock
& Wilcox (August, GA) after 34 years with the company.
Born just outside Cleveland, OH, Rich grew up in the
northeast before moving to South Carolina in 1954.
He graduated Aiken High School (SC), received a
B.Sc. engineering degree from Rutgers University (NJ) and
a Ph.D. degree in Applied Science from Leeds University
(UK) while working under contract to the British Atomic
Energy Authority. He
began his business career in Chicago before moving to
Aiken SC in 1972 to accept a research & development
management position with Babcock & Wilcox (Augusta,
GA).
Rich
joined the Rotary Club of Aiken - Sunrise in 1988 and
served as Club President in 1993-94. He was a District
Area Rep. in 1994-95 and served as Assistant Governor for
Area 8 from 1999 to 2004.
He has been a member of numerous Club and District
Committees and served as District Conference Chair in
2005. He is a
multiple Paul Harris Fellow, a member of the Paul Harris
Society, a Foundation Benefactor and a member of the
Bequest Society.
In
addition to his Rotary commitment, Rich has held board
positions with a variety of church and civic organizations
and currently serves on the University of South Carolina
– Aiken Business School Advisory Board.
Rich’s
wife, Jan, retired at the end of 2003 after owning an
award winning restaurant in Aiken for 15+ years.
They have two children – a married daughter,
Kirstie, of McLean, VA, who works as an independent
government consultant and a son, Nicholas, of Minneapolis,
MN, who works for McKensie & Company.
They have one granddaughter.
Rich and Jan are members of St. Thaddeus Episcopal
Church where Rich currently serves as Treasurer.
