Ellison Smith is a retired educator. He has
served as a teacher, principal, school superintendent and
college professor in South Carolina and Georgia. He is a
native of South Carolina and grew up in the Columbia and
Abbeville SC areas. Ellison attended Clemson
University and Erskine College, and then received his M.A.
and Ph.D. in School Administration from The University of
South Carolina.
After 8 years of service in the Air Force and Air
National Guard, Ellison worked in real estate and
brokerage services. Since retirement, he and his wife
Elizabeth have done mission work with "Mission to the
World" and "Teach the Children." They
served two winters in Ukraine and have started two
Christian kindergartens in Romania. They are
currently working with a third children's center scheduled
to open in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in 2009.
Ellison joined Rotary in Conway, SC in 1978 and also
was in the York, SC club. He currently is a member
of the Carolina Forest Sunrise Club near Myrtle Beach, SC.
He is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, a member of the Paul
Harris Society and a Major Donor- Second Level. He
currently is Club Vice-President (2008-09) and serves on
the District 7770 Grants Committee.
He is married to Elizabeth Smith and they have 5
children and 11 grandchildren. They currently live
in Conway, SC.
