Raffia "Elizabeth" Smith
is a retired educator having served as classroom teacher,
principal, school district assistant superintendent,
interim school superintendent, university professor
and director of a consortium.
Born in Georgetown, SC to a Lebanese dad and
American mom, she has nine siblings who are still living. She
obtained a B.A. from Southeastern College in Lakeland,
Fl.; a Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy from the
University of South Carolina.
A member of the Rotary Club of
Carolina Forest Sunrise, she has been a Rotarian for more
than 16 years. She
currently serves as Foundation Chair for her club and
Chair of the World Community Service for District 7770.
Elizabeth has served as President and District
Vocational Chair in District 7750.
Elizabeth and Ellison (her husband)
have attended International conventions in Canada,
Copenhagen and Salt Lake City, Utah.
She is GSE Team Leader to South Africa, District
9320 traveling September, 2007.
Elizabeth is a Foundation Major Donor, a Sustaining
Member, a Paul Harris Society member and Benefactor.
She and her husband have started two
Christian schools in Romania and are in the beginning
stages of starting a school in Bulgaria.
They serve as team leaders for mission trips
representing Christ and the Presbyterian Church in
America.
In other civic activities, Elizabeth
has served on numerous boards and committees as well as
president of the local church’s ladies group.
She is married to Ellison Smith, Jr., a retired
school superintendent and they live in Conway, S.C.
They have 5 children and 11 grandchildren.
