Jay
Kapner
was the owner and operator of the Greentree Inn in Wilmington
before his retirement in 2007. He now lives in
Atlanta, GA. Born in Brooklyn
NY, Jay married Wilmington
NC
native Lee Greene Kapner in 1970. He holds an
undergraduate degree from
Boston
University
and a graduate degree from Springfield
College, both in Psychology.
A
member of the Wilmington Rotary Club since 1992, Jay served as its president in 2001-2002 and on the board., He
served as Assistant Governor in 2002-2004, the District
Training Team, District Rotaract Chair and advisor to the
UNCW Rotaract Club. He served as Sergeant-at-Arms at
several International Conventions. A Paul Harris Fellow,
Jay was also recognized with the Rotary Foundation
District Service Award.
Jay’s
involvement in the Wilmington
community included leadership positions in the Cape Fear
Blues Festival, Cape Fear Coast Convention and Visitors
Bureau, Wilmington Executive Club, the local Domestic
Violence Shelter, Wilmington Concert Association, and the
Society For Masonboro Island. He was active in the B’nai
Israel Congregation serving in many leadership capacities,
performs biblical music, and was featured performer with
the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra.
Jay
and Lee have two adult children, Tamar, a second grade
teacher in Atlanta; and Daniel, a graduate student at the London School of
Economics. In his leisure time, Jay enjoys music,
bicycling, the outdoors, reading, and spending time with
his family.
