Rocky Jacobs retired as the
chief operating officer of the Fairfax County VA school
system in 1992. For
the next several years he coordinated and directed
legislative liaison activities with Members of the United
States Congress, the Virginia General Assembly and various
state and national educational organizations and regulatory
agencies for the Virginia
Department of Education, where he served as a special
assistant to the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
He was invited to join the Springfield,
Virginia Rotary Club, in the Virginia suburbs of Washington,
D.C. in District 7610, in 1978.
He served the club as President during the 1987-1988
Rotary year. He
also served the club in various other capacities including
secretary, treasurer, president-elect, and Foundation Chair
as well as serving on the Board’s of the Springfield
Rotary Club’s Foundation and World Affairs Youth
Conference.
Rocky currently serves as the 2008-10
Polio Zone Challenge Coordinator.
He has also served in various capacities on
District 7610’s Foundation Committee and as Interact Chair
and Governor’s Representative prior to serving as Governor
during the 1994-1995 Rotary year.
Rocky currently lives in Belhaven,
North Carolina and is a member of the Belhaven-Pantego
Rotary Club in District 7720.
He has served District 7720 as District Trainer,
Foundation Committee Chair, Disaster Committee Chair,
Legislation Committee Chair and as it’s representative to
Rotary International’s 2001 Council on Legislation.
He has served at the zone and
international level as a Representative of the President of
Rotary International, Convener and Chair of Rotary Zone
33’s Director Nominating Committee as well as a member of
the Executive Committee of the Zone 33 and 34 Institute. He has also served as a Zone 33 Task Force Coordinator and
Membership Coordinator.
He served the Rotary Foundation of Rotary
International as a Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator
from 2003-2006.
Over the years Rocky has spoken to
numerous Rotary clubs and district conferences as well as
foundation and membership seminars and zone institutes, to
individuals from over 25 countries and 30 states and
territories of the United States, on a variety of Rotary
topics. He has been a presenter at both President-Elect Training
Seminars and Governor- Elect Training Seminars for many
years. Rocky and his wife Jo are both Major Donor’s to the Rotary
Foundation and charter members of the Bequest Society.
He is a recipient of both the Foundation’s “Citation
for Meritorious Service” and "Distinguished Service
Award".
