Glenn
Hood is a retired
educator, having spent 32 years as a high school social
studies teacher, coach, and school administrator, and as
an instructor at the Campbell University School of
Education. Early
in his professional career, he was a finalist in the North
Carolina Teacher of the Year competition, and has been
designated a Master Teacher/Trainer by the International
Social Studies Project at the UNC-CH School of Education.
He
showed great wisdom in his youth by marrying Ann, also a
Rotarian, a primary grades teacher who retired in 2002
after 31 years. They have two children, Eric, married to
Amy with two sons, Ben and Nate, and Melissa, married to
Matt with a new daughter, Annabelle, born in June 2008
In
2003 he co-edited and co-published Lillington: The
Centennial Sketchbook for the centennial of his
hometown, and he has written several articles for
publication in professional journals as well.
First
joining Rotary in 1974, he has served twice as President
of the Lillington Rotary Club, nine terms as
Secretary-Treasurer of the club, and numerous years on the
club’s Board of Directors.
He has been selected Rotarian of the Year by his
club on three different occasions. Currently he serves his
club as its Foundation Chair and Club Treasurer.
He
served as District Governor of District 7710 in 2005-06
and has served on, and chaired many committees for his
District over the years.
Currently
he serves as District 7710 Communications Officer, and
serves as Vice President on the Board of Directors of the
Zone 33 Rotary Leadership Institute, and is both Zone 33
RLI Promotions Chair and Assistant Faculty Trainer.
He
is his district’s CART chair as well as the corporate
Vice President of the “Coins for Alzheimer’s Research
Trust, Inc.” He is serving in 2008-09 as Zone 33
Literacy Coordinator and as President of the District 7710
College of Governors.
A
multiple Paul Harris Fellow, Glenn is also a Foundation
Benefactor. All members of his family are also Paul Harris
Fellows.
