Past District Governor (7750)

Edward A. Hamilton is a retired Colonel (U.S. Army) and served in leadership capacities with the Strom Thurmond Institute and South Carolina Universities Research and Education Foundation at Clemson University before retiring in 1999.

Born in Charleston, SC, he obtained his BS in engineering at the United States Military Academy (West Point), and his MA from U. Pa. in Russian language and literature. Ed served in the Army for 26 years, serving in combat and academic positions.  He taught at West Point, was a Military Liaison in Potsdam, East Germany; an arms control delegate to the IMF treaty with the USSR, and was Director of Arms Control Studies at the Army War College. 

 Ed is a member of the Rotary Club of Clemson, SC with 17 years of perfect attendance. He was Club President in 1994-95, Assistant Governor in 2000-01, and District 7750 Governor in 2003-04.  He is a Rotary Foundation Major Donor, a Paul Harris Fellow, a Paul Harris Sustaining Member, and a Foundation Benefactor.

He is married to the former Jane Spragins, an elementary school teacher.  They have two children and five grandchildren.  The Hamiltons are active members of Holy Trinity Episcopal church in Clemson.  Ed’s hobbies include golf, boating and being a grandfather.
