James
Ronald "Ron" Ferrill
is a Civil Engineer
and Educator, retired from the E.I. duPont de Nemours
& Co., after serving in a variety of engineering and
management positions. A native Texan, Ron earned BS and MS
degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas
– Austin, taught at the university, and also worked for
the U.S. Geological Survey in his career.
In
Rotary, Ron currently serves on the Zone 33 RLI Board of
Directors - Vice Chair. He recently served on the Zone
33/34 Institute Executive Committee and as RI Zone
Membership Coordinator. Currently, he is the Zone 33 Major
Gifts and Grants Advisor.
In District 7570 (Virginia) he serves as District
Grants Chair, District Secretary, and member of the
District Rotary Foundation Steering, Strategic Planning,
Training, and RI Awards Committees. He was District
Governor in 1998-99.
Ron
joined the Rotary Club of Martinsville in 1967, was Club
President, and helped establish Rotary Club of
Martinsville-Henry County. He is a Major Donor, PHF
Sustaining Member, Benefactor of The Rotary Foundation,
Charter Skelton Fellow, and recipient of the Foundation
Citation for Meritorious Service. He is past Chair of the
District Rotary Foundation Committee and former Assistant
Governor. He was GSE Team Leader to Korea in 1997 and a
delegate to the 2004 Council on Legislation.
He
is involved in many religious and civic activities in
Martinsville, including being an Elder in the Presbyterian
Church, as well as former Chair of CONTACT Teleministry,
Transportation Safety Commission, and Martinsville
Planning Commission. Currently, he serves on the
Martinsville City Council. Ron enjoys golf and is an
accredited Rose Judge, Consulting Rosarian, and Master
Gardener. He
and wife, Elaine, have a daughter, Allison, a son, Neill,
and grandchildren, Leah and Reid. |
