Bruce Baker was the
Governor for Rotary International District 7750 which
consists of 55 Rotary clubs in Western South Carolina for
the 2002-2003 Rotary year. Bruce has served as Club
Secretary for two and one half years, Board of
Directors’ Member for several additional years and
President for the year 1994-1995. Bruce served as a
Lieutenant Governor for four years. He is the founder of
the District e-mailers group and has been influential in
establishing our District Web page. He is a multiple Paul
Harris Fellow and Rotary Foundation Benefactor, and has 21
years of perfect attendance.
Bruce continues to be very involved with his Rotary
club and District. He
is Currently President Emeritus and District Chair for
CART (Coin for Alzheimer’s Research), and District
Membership Chair. He
is also a certified RLI (Rotary Leadership Institute)
instructor.
He is a
native of Ann Arbor, Michigan. He attended Central
Michigan University and the University of Michigan before
receiving his Bachelor of Business Administration in
Marketing from Eastern Michigan University. He is a member
of Sigma Nu, national social fraternity and was president
of Alpha Kappa Psi, national business fraternity, at
Eastern. He served in the US Navy from 1962 to 1965, as an
electronics technician in the submarine service.
Bruce and
his family moved to the Greenville area in 1978 as a
Branch Manager with Burroughs Corporation. In 1980, he
left Burroughs to start ADS Data Systems, Inc., a turn-key
computer firm specializing in custom business application
software. After 20 years, Bruce closed ADS, where he
served as President and CEO. He continues to do consulting
work from his home, and is involved in several other
business ventures including being a Marketer and Business
Mentor.
His hobbies
include being a sports fan of just about all sports and
things that involve the computer (investing, genealogy,
web surfing) and being with his kids (children and grand
children). He enjoys playing golf at least once a year at
his club’s annual golf tournament. In 1966, he married
Luanne Lyon of Buchanan, Michigan. Luanne is a graduate of
the University of Michigan. As a Registered Nurse, she
currently works as a home health nurse for Interim Health
Care. Her hobbies include singing with the Gap Creek
Singers the church choir and playing with her
grandchildren. Bruce and Luanne have two children and
eight grandchildren.
Bruce has previously served as both a Deacon and
Elder in the Presbyterian Church.
They are currently members of the First
Presbyterian Church in Greer, SC. where Luanne has served
as a Deacon.
