(High Point, NC, Fredericksburg VA) Two very
successful Rotary Leadership Institutes occurred during
the extended weekend of November 17-18, 2007. On Friday,
38 Rotarians participated in
Parts I, II & III classes held at the High Point
Chamber of Commerce in High Point, NC. The next day in
Fredericksburg VA, 30 Rotarians in all three Parts
participated at a beautiful Fall venue, bursting with
color, on the Mary Washington University campus. Rotarians
from across Zone 33 participated in the two events, with
representatives from District 7600, host District 7610, District
7680, host District 7690, District 7710, District
7720, District 7730, District 7750, and District 7770.
In High Point, according to District 7690 Chair Abby
Donnelly "The participants
contributed to a great experience, sharing ideas,
engaging, building relationships and learning more about
Rotary and Leadership. The faculty was excellent – they
were engaging, prepared, and fostered meaningful
conversation among the participants." She
particularly singled out District 7690 Governor David
McCoy for credit "for arranging the
facility and for marketing this training and supporting it
throughout the year. We got a high caliber participant and
it’s because of the emphasis [DG McCoy] put on the
importance of this training." Registration
and lunch were both excellent at the event according to
Donnelly. This also marked one of the first Zone 33 RLI
events where PowerPoint technology was used by the
Faculty, and it was well received by the participants.
Fredericksburg boasted a familiar venue for RLI, Mary
Washington University, and was the second event held
within the boundaries of District 7610 in as many months.
District 7610 Chair Jon Allan indicated that by all
accounts the Institute was successful. He praised both RLI
Faculty and Staff by relating "I
was impressed by the way everyone jumped in and worked
cooperatively to get the job done - and done very well!
The evaluation sheets looked good and we have 5 new
graduates." Like the other event,
the successful participation level was in large part due
to the efforts of District 7610 Governor (and RLI Faculty
Member) Travis
White. Governor White welcomed
participants, attended sessions, and helped present
recognitions to the graduates at the
luncheon.
During the Fredericksburg Graduate Recognition,
Zone 33 RLI Chair Bevin Wall delivered some brief comments
and thanked both students and faculty for making the
commitment of their time and talents to strengthen their
Rotary clubs and the service they provide to their
respective communities.
High Point RLI boasted 7 Part III Graduates, while
Fredericksburg RLI saw 5 Graduates. The Graduates were
presented with RLI pins at the luncheon, and will also
receive recognition at the Club and District Conference
level.
State Chairs Bill Wilson (Western NC) and
Abe Clymer
(VA) supported their respective events. Faculty in High
Point included: PDG
