Chairman's Corner
Access the Power of The Rotary Foundation
November 23, 2007

November's Rotary Foundation Month brings our Foundation to the forefront of our Rotary activities and thoughts during this time of year.

It seems to be everywhere. In mentions from the club podium, articles in our club bulletin, special district events, and the Rotarian magazine, everyone is talking about our Foundation. We hear about the good the Foundation does- from improving the conditions of the less fortunate in "Third World" countries, to providing grant money for local projects. We love to hear about and support the educational programs like Group Study Exchange, Ambassadorial & Cultural Scholars, and our Peace Fellows and Peace Centers. Our past and present progress in eradicating Polio is simply amazing, and worthy of our continued support and promotion. And, of course, we get asked for money to support these programs. Rotarians readily do so, since we see it as a force for good in our world!

There is so much good news, and our Rotary Foundation is doing so much good around the world, that sometimes it seems overwhelming. In fact, no single Rotarian can keep track of it all. It is especially hard to communicate what our Foundation does to newer Rotarians.

Rotary Foundation education is a specific place where The Rotary Leadership Institute has an important role. RLI's curriculum starts with the basics, and builds from there to a thorough understanding of the Rotary Foundation's structure, programs, decision-making, financing, resources and the nuts and bolts of project-building and publicity. A graduate of RLI is uniquely armed with the knowledge of how to access the power of our Rotary Foundation to Do Good in the World! And, they develop this breadth of knowledge cooperatively, with other Rotarians, and in a process that is engaging, productive and fun.

Just as no single Rotarians can know everything about our Foundation, you cannot have too many opportunities to learn more about it. RLI offers a singularly effective way to make Rotary Foundation opportunities personal to your prospective club leaders. Isn't that just the type of Rotarian you want leading your club- motivated, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic for service- ready to access the power of our Foundation!
